West Studi’s making a film in the area with Kevin Wilmott: The Only Good Indian. I happen to know one of the guys producing it, Scott Richardson, and he was kind enough to secure an internship for my oldest on the set–if the kid will just show up. Actually he’s weighted down with classes at university, and as I told him: Classes first, internship second. He’ll probably start this week.
I’ve always been amazed by Studi, from the time I first saw him in Last of the Mohicans and Dances With Wolves. His dignity and intensity are beyond description. But more subtle, and often overlooked, is his work in films like Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee and The New World. Also his humor. Either way, it’s an honor to have my son on the set. Maybe I’ll find time to go one day myself.
