Drove through a beautifully violent thunderstorm the other day to reach Jane Booth’s studio in the country. She and her significant other Bob live on several acres with a couple of dogs, a cat, and about 25 hammocks. Jane’s been painting most of her life, did the corporate thing for awhile in the 80s and early 90s with a telecom firm, decided it was killing her art, took the big risk and split. Eventually it began to pay off.Â
We went through her studio, setting pieces aside for her show on 9/14. Afterward we relaxed on hammocks beneath hackberries and looked up at the sky. It’s been awhile since I’ve done that, which means I work too damn much. Probably it’s time to put up a hammock myself–assuming I’ll take time to use it. I will, eventually.
